ever heard of bellevue?
|
ok, i admit it. my first caption for this photo was stupid. i fired it off with one foot out the door this morning just so i could get something posted. here is the correction:
bellevue hospital is america's oldest public hospital, originally commissioned by the city in 1734. it was also the first medical college in the country (1860), the first nurse training school in the country (1873), and had the first hospital-based ambulance service (1869). of course, through one of it's various roles the very word "bellevue" became synonymous with the criminally insane.
i.e. in 1965 don drummond, renouned trombonist of skatalites fame, was remanded to bellevue after being convicted of murdering his girlfriend. four years later, he died here amidst some controversy.
