by the way, the costa rica lonely planet guide is a piece of shit. the more prolific of the two writers has a serious conflict or two. he clearly perceives modern costa rica to be an empty husk of its former glory, all but completely ruined by american and european tourism. honestly, his bias may have some grounding in truth, but it comes across as seriously discouraging and disappointing when trying to plan a trip to this beautiful and unspoiled country, and it's obviously quite out of place in a guide book for english speaking (i.e. american and european) tourists.
